All One Thread will promote individuals and groups, especially those focused on the most marginalized groups, in the sale of their hand-embroidered goods. AOT will be a global clearing house for hand-embroidered goods, pointing consumers everywhere to local, regional and international groups and businesses that sell them online, in stores and at trade fairs. Beyond the clearing-house function, AOT will join forces with other groups, such as Aid to Artisans, in strengthening your group’s capacity to produce goods for the international marketplace. This includes workshops in financial accounting, marketing techniques and business promotion. It also includes pointing online consumers to organizations and businesses that sell products online. Not all organizations sell outside their countries, but this does not mean your website will not be included – we want to promote your online and in-store sales with the local and the tourist populations! AOT knows that we all need some way of earning income for our children and our families. Women and men everywhere are ingenious in coming up with ways to support themselves and their families. For many artisans, their handcrafted products yield a livable income. But for reasons we have yet to discover, hand-embroidered goods often seem to command a lower price than other crafts. As a sub-category of this objective, AOT will research the going prices for handcrafted goods of all kinds, everywhere, and promote the development of standards and prices for hand-embroidered goods.
